1) I think urban farm would take to have sustainable agriculture in the city its because money. People use in city to keep the economy running. And provide "thousands of jobs." We can also have the plants on the rooftop which save the space.
ReplyDelete2) the brief summary shows us that urban agriculture will help the economy and give the job opportunities for lots of people. This agriculture is for the crowed city is like Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo to fresh the air or to instead the gray. I found it by the web site of http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/a/agriculture/urban_agriculture/ this website shows me that scientists are studying this agriculture and bring it to community or city of garden, and build the greenhouse farm on the farm roof that will bring the fresh produce for people to consum
I agree your idea that agriculture in the city will provide more jobs for the people.
DeleteI think pointing out that urban farming can help create jobs and grow the economy are excellent points!
Delete1)I think it would take to have sustainable agriculture in the city it is good for people, because urban farm can teach people how to grow their own food. They might have fresh vegetables and fruits everyday and it is healthy for people. Many green houses grow crops in four seasons. so each season has fresh produce for us.
ReplyDelete2) I found a project from intetnet ''Growing A Greener City" by City Growers.it is about teach urban children where their foods come from and how are foods make them healthier. The kids who are join in this program will promote healthy hibits by making food fun, they learn about the ways in which growing, distributing, and discarding food can help or hurt the environment. They also get excited about fresh produce. I learned about this farm program is grow green and healthy enviroment. (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/citygrowers/growing-a-greener-city) This program also seeks students to participate them.
I like the project about the ''Growing A Greener City". It gives children more knowledge about health food. They will learn many things which they don't know before. In the process, they will feel happy.
DeleteI agree with you first answer.Urban farming can growing food by their own. it is opportunity for people.
DeleteI am really interested in the program you found. It sounds wonderful!
Delete1) I think use the unexploited land to create more gardens and farms properly would take to have sustainable agriculture in the city. Urban farming have many benefits to the community but not enough space. If people use those unexploited space such as rooftops and basements to plant food. It would reduce air pollution and water pollution by the farming. So i think it would take to have sustainable agriculture in the city.
ReplyDelete2) i found the Brookyn Grange is the largest rooftop farming in NYC. It is an almost 40,000sq feets farming buliting locate in Queens. The farming grow organic vegetables and herbs to promote the flesh and heathy food for the local communities. The farm is profitable and growth by selling the products to the restaurants and retail stores. Not only they can grow the fresh vegetables, but also reduce the air pollution by photosynthesis and reduce the water pollution. This roof farm can creat jobs for people ,improve the quilty of life and provide the heathy fresh food for the community in NYC.(http://www.brooklyngrangefarm.com/)
I love statement said that ''it would reduce air pollution and water pollution by practicing urban farm''
Delete1). I think urban farm it would take to have sustainable agriculture in the city. People who have private house in city, should used the back of their building for urban farm. They can plated their vegetables, fruits and crops on it. This will teach young children to know, how fruit or vegetable growth. The plant in our building is good for our health because it converts carbon dioxide from human being to oxygen. we used oxygen in daily life to live.
ReplyDelete2). I found theis rooftop garden on top of the Schieblock building. The garden houses vegetables. herbs and bees, with the produce being distributed to local restaurants and in the future their own shop. It is 32.4 meter above the Schiekade, the Dakakker's goal is to turn downtown Rotterdam into a district that is a source of fresh produce for the neighborhood. This roof top farm can bring a positive development to the community by created employment and improve the health of human being. Eating fresh food from farm give us vitamin.(www.foodurbanism.org/dakakker-urban-rooftop-farm).
You bring up a good point: teaching kids about where their food comes from is very important, especially when it is fresh and good for them!
Delete1.I think the sustainable agriculture will be good in the city. Farmers will use the theory of ecology into agriculture. It relates to organism and our environment. Farmers can make the non-renewable resource using most efficiently. Sometimes, It can help farmers make a good quality for their life. It will not destroy the soil and environment that much.
ReplyDelete2.The rooftop garden is growth on the roof of the green plants. Through the evaporation, the rooftop garden can take away the heat, reducing the surface and around temperature. It can make a small individual or community garden for people. It also save the land because it can be on the roof. The rooftop garden can make a better environment because the green plants will take away the CO2 emissions and produce O2. I think it’s very good. The summer is very hot recently. The rooftop garden decreases the heat around us which is perfect. Sometimes, it may save the fees for the air conditioning. http://www.cityfarmer.org/rooftop59.html
I found that it's surprising that rooftop garden reduce the heat. Including, the fact that it can also save electricity by saving the use of the air conditions. So, great research :)
DeleteMentioning that it will not destroy the soil is a very good point. Many big industries tear down rainforests and other natural resources so they can farm, so this is a really interesting benefit to urban farming!
Delete1) I think the hot trend of "eating healthy'' and urban faming will help to have the sustainable agriculture in the city. Since the science and technology became advanced, people' mind and eating style changed, from the beginning ideas of substantial meal to the healthy meal. But if the healthy foods have to ship from a very far away region, they would be every expensive. And not everyone have the money to pay for those healthy foods. If they created urban faming in the city, People not only understand the foods they are eating, but they also are more willing to pay for affordable prices for the healthy foods. Economic will earn some money; health problems will decrease; Environment will be better; whole society will be better off.
ReplyDelete2)I found a website that shows the actions that New York City has done to maintain the Urban Agriculture. In that website, it introduces the five borough farm in New York City at first. Secondly, it tells how to grow and maintain the high quality of the crops, soil, and compost. Moreover, it talks about the “Future of Urban Agriculture” and “Impact of Urban Agriculture”. Lastly, it also gives some suggestions and events to participate in the Urban Agriculture.
http://www.fiveboroughfarm.org/participate/
Good points! Eating healthy is definitely a big trend right now (one that I hope sticks around) and I think it might really help kick off the urban farming movement!
Delete1) I think we should use the land that haven't been exploited to build gardens or local farms, a good way re-use our space is building small gardens in rooftops, it help us to maintain our environment, to get fresh food when is time to buy some vegetable and fruits.
ReplyDelete2) "The Big Apple Crunch" is the most participants in apple-crunching event. it will take place on October 24th. you can participate by finding a crunch near to you, at any of Grow NYC's Green market Farmer's Markets or another location or by hosting a crunch yourself!, or register in their page. https://bigapplecrunch13.squarespace.com/
Very good points! I think it would improve the city to have these small gardens, and it definitely has the added benefit of not destroying any natural land.
DeleteI agree with your point of using free land to build farms, that would help the economy of creating jobs with fresh fruits and vegetables. And will help people eat healthier considering is not is a factory with chemicals on if.
Delete1.I think it would take to have sustainable agriculture in the city because urban farming can grow food health and organic food by their own. In some supermarket, there are some food no fresh, no well and cheap. People can easy buy the food near by their own house, but people don't think those food is not organic. If urban farming can grow food by their own, they can get fresh and organic food.It is more healthy food people. If urban farming need more area to plant, they can uses rooftops, basements and warehouse.
ReplyDelete2.http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/photos/urban-farming/
I found a website is"Green Gotham"byAnthony Behar, urban farming can growing food near by their own house.A benefits that reducing harmful runoff, increasing shading.People can growing fresh food.People can growing food in the rooftops because getting enough water and sunlight. It is better for people buy food from supermarket. People can do new technology to serve what they people need. I think that urban farming will bring more healthy food for people. When people adopt growing food in the rooftops. It is can reducing environmental pollution because a lot of food take far from to bring here.It take long times, the food became not fresh. Therefore, urban farming growing food at the rooftops is good.
Good points, Qin. Especially in poorer areas, there is a big problem with the availability of fresh, healthy, and affordable food. If citizens can grow their own, however, they could fix this problem!
DeleteI like your concept about supplying food from urban farm to nearby supermarkets. It can help us to get fresh fruits and vegetables with cheap prize.
Delete1. I think it would taking a lot of time preparing it all together in the city ,where there many people and very busy. Likewise, it would also cost between being average and expensive in budget. Think about it, how strong does the building need to be to withstand all the load from above? Well, of course it would cost more to make a stronger building. Also, if it's elsewhere like a garden, it needs space and healthy environment. Lastly, it needs people to do like gardening, harvesting, caring,etc..
ReplyDelete2.http://inhabitat.com/detroits-urban-agriculture-movement-could-help-green-the-city/: So this movement is relating to a project and/or community garden. The idea was to be more "green" within the city. The city in Detroit, has be number one on urban agriculture in the U.S. Replacing open and abandon area with plant and cleaner environment. And not only in the area that are need, but also just in your backyard helps you to save money and makes it eco-friendly. I learned that not only can sustainable urban agriculture can be on the rooftop, it can also be anywhere such as a park, around the neighborhood, sidewalk, and more.
I agree with it will take time to prepar the actions and thought about sustainable agriculture in the city.To achieve the action and idea about sustainable arigulture, people need time to work on it. For example, people need time to learn and apply the science and technology on urban farming. People also need to creat lands.
DeleteThese are really great points, Justin, and I'm glad you're thinking about the practical side of things!
Delete1. I think that to have sustainable agriculture in the city is benefit to people. In the recent years, a lot of urbans people feel confuse about the source of the foods, because they never see any of the farm, all they know about the crops are just heard from other people, video or books. So if we implement agriculture in the city we can let those people have more undersatnding about the source of the food. also we can increase the supply of foods to the townspeople.
ReplyDelete2.http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-advantages-of-rooftop-gardening.htm
From the article i have understand that create a rooftop garden have a lot of advantage. it can help improve the atmosphere energy. and the rooftop plants provide natural insulation to rooftops by reflecting light and heat, safe the energy conservation. also it may beneficial in areas which accumulate a great deal of rain. there is a lot of benefit to create the rooftop garden.
This is a good point, Jackson. Many kids today don't know where their food comes from or even what it looks like before it gets to their plate! Working in a garden and learning about their food could certainly be beneficial.
Delete1) I think to have a sustainable agriculture in the city there should be a good place for the food to be in. And good technology to determine if the food is good, or if it would do damage to the person who eats it. Also to keep the food in good condition. The good place and material will make the food better for the buyer.
ReplyDelete2) this website talks about how this company and it's members come together to make healthier and better food, and great farming systems. The NSAC provide things that are needed , like information, materials , and training to their partners. The Sustainable Agriculture Working Groups are engage in other places not just the U.S.
http://sustainableagriculture.net/about-us/members/
In general , it cost a lot of money to have a sustainable agriculture in city and according to the easy we read even the latest technology cost a lot of money .
Delete1. food is not a real problem for people who live in cities, most people care much about their health,.they want have healthier and better life. so more and more people make city agriculture . it will improve economy of city and also can improve the air of city.
ReplyDelete2.http://www.ru.org/ecology-and-environment/towards-a-sustainable-agriculture.html
http://www.carlislesyntec.com/?page=template&category=149
on the website we can know some systems can make sustainable agriculture here in NYC. in the NYC it is expensive to build roof gardens. but it is also have lots of benefits.(Reduces urban heat island effects,Air and water purification,Energy efficiency year-round). so city agriculture is a fashion and profitable way to do .
I like that you mentioned that the gardens would improve the air of the city, because this is definitely one of my favorite benefits of this movement.
Deletei like your idear that we need more fresh air in the city. Actually, make more farms will have more fresh air to the city, all good for people.
Delete1) Firstable,I like the idea urban agriculture could crate thousands of entry-level jobs , but it would take a lot of money and space to have sustainable agriculture in the city . However, this could be a way to help our economies in today's world.
ReplyDelete2)This is a interest website i found in internet : http://www.ny-sawg.org/funders--partners.html
DeleteNew York's Sustainable Agriculture Working Group promotes a healthy agricultural system that is environmentally sound, economically viable, and socially just for farmers and consumers . And they also have workshop and a lot of project for people and college students , that help people better cognitive with food and environment.

ReplyDelete1)I think urban farm should have sustainable agriculture in the city. It's an amazing idea for people who wants to eat fresh and healthy own-grown vegetables. Also, plant vegetable in their own back yards or front yards will reduce the carbon footprints in the city and it's able to idealize their house too. If every single house owners does the same thing, that will help the city a lot.
ReplyDelete2). I found a project through slowmoneynyc.org "Funding for Sustainable Agriculture: Long Island Agriculture Enterprise Park", says that Empire State Development(ESD), doled out $785 million through its newly established Regional Economic Developmet Council. An Agricultural Enterprise Park in Suffolk County, include a 100,000 square foot cooling, storage and meat processing facility, to help local small farmers to access the growing markets for local produce and meat. This project help NYC folks to have fresh vegetables and meats that compared to the food sources that are coming from other states. http://slowmoneynyc.org/funding-for-sustainable-agriculture-long-island-agriculture-enterprise-park
1)Ans: I think gardening on the rooftop or in the backward of our houses will help to have sustainable agriculture in our city. There are not enough fields for agricultural purpose in the city so this might be the best way. This way we can also have fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables everyday.
ReplyDelete2)Ans:During my research i found a blog named "Battery Rooftop Garden Blog" where they informed about growing food 35 floors above New York harbor in lower Manhattan. They grow varieties of fruits, vegetables, and herbs on the rooftop.
