After reading Unit 6: Chapter 3 of Urban Reader for College Writers, answer these question:
- Why do you think children bully their peers?
- What do you think schools should do to cut back on bullying on school buses? (This is where you can discuss whether you think the options mentioned in the chapter are effective and why, or you can discuss some things you think might be more effective.)
- Why do you think they aren't doing these things already?
You must post a comment answering these questions Friday, October 11th. You should reply to another student's post by class time on Tuesday.
*** NOTE: The dates for the ACT this semester are December 9th and 10th. You must not take the test during class time. Schedule it for a time when you have no classes.
1) I think children bully their peers because they have been bullied in the past and they don't want to be bullied anymore. I also think is because they don't want to be bullied so they do it first. And because they want to feel with power over everybody else.
ReplyDelete2) I think schools should have a supervisor other than the bus driver on the bus. That way the driver can focus better on the driving and everything else with the road, while the other person can focus more on the students , that's way no bullying happens during the bus ride.
3) I think they aren't doing this because I guess is more money to pay for the other supervisor on the bus.
I agree with your first question which talked about children bully others because other people bullied them before. It is a bad effect that the children got. Many people do that, too. It will affect their future if they have the kind of attitude. Some people will bring the attitude to their life when they do something.
DeleteI agree with your number one question.Children might bullied by their peers before, then children wants to revenge their peers.
DeleteLuis, I disagree! Usually, when children get bullied in the past, they kind of known what they have been through, and at same time develop a sense of sympathy for others. And often they want to stand up, but they're to scare of what might happen to them.
DeleteReally good points, Luis, and I think you're right; money is one of the big barriers to having safer areas in schools.
Delete1.There are many reasons for why children bully their peers. 1. Maybe someone bully the child, and the child feel very bad, he will bully other people. 2. Their close friends have attitude about violence. 3. Their parents have this kind behavior of bullying. They will be a role model.
ReplyDelete2.I think schools should educate children about the knowledge which about the results of bullying and violent. They can tell children what will happened if they always bully other people. Schools can put cameras in the bus to supervise students. If there is a person who bully other people, school can give him a punishment. They should issue a list talks about bullying. Putting cameras in the buses is an effective way to reduce and prevent bullying. Each bus needs to have several cameras to supervise every angle and corner in the bus. Some students will feel safer because of those cameras,
3.Because most of children do not have self-control. Sometimes, they know it is a right thing, but they don’t like to do it. Their friends will affect them, too. If every person does not do the good thing, the person who wants to change may follow those people. The schools did not force students to do what they need to do.
I love your quote. The most of children do have self- control or sometimes, they did not know it is a right thing.
Delete1) Often, children bully their peers for absolutely no reasons. They just want to show that they have power to rule, and always picked on the weakness.
ReplyDelete2) Because bullies often look for kids who seems to be defenseless, and who can not stand for themselves, I would suggest that they place kids into categories, from toughest to weakness. By putting them in separate buses, also hiring supervisors to control activities going on the bus, while the bus driver could focus on the road.
3) Maybe, they don't understand what bullies do to children emotionally, and physically. Moreover, not pay enough attention to that matter as long as it is not concern their families. Let's face it! if bully could led kids to suicide, this is major to think about. Because it is no fun when Parents lost their child cause of that. They should think with care, and take actions about it . And most importantly have laws to back it up.
I also think the children just waht to show that they have power and mabe they just have for picking other weakness. And school should hire supervisors to stop the bully on the bus.
DeleteI agree with your answer for number 1 and 2, children often bully for no reason. Only to look more tougher and look for those who are weak.
DeleteI agree with number 1, I think they do it for power, to show they are above everybody else. But I also disagree, I think they bully because they've been bullied before , so they don't want to get bullied now, they bully first. Not all the cases are like this , but some fall in this category.
DeleteThese are good ideas in theory, Lissa, but imagine how long bus trips would take if children were not grouped by where they live. Plus, a new kind of bullying might emerge based on who is on the "cool" bus and who is not.
Delete1) I think children bully peers just for fun, perhaps they don't know how to hate someone or fight. form the article, a kid said '' who wants (name of kid) not to ride the bus? let's vote!" this example shows they are playing. then other kids are pushing to fight and they would bully some of kids were siting quietly.
ReplyDelete2) there are some suggestions to do that cut back on bullying on school buses. First, the children would easy forgot about what they did on the buses, the teacher may remind them nice and friendly to each other after school. they can take some friendly pictures and paste on the bus. if nesscery, the teachers may choose one or two children for the leaders of them. Someone who is bullying on the bus will get punishment as copy vocabulary 100 times. I think this idea will work for kids. the bus driver can pay attention for driving.
3) the school aren't doing these things because they don't really understand what are the children's thinking. if they want to slove the problems of bully, they may try to know more about kids' thoughts and focus on some kids who always bully.
It is very true that sometimes bullying can start as play and children often do not understand what pain their are causing their peers.
Delete1) I also think children bully their peers just want to show they have power and have fun for picking other children because they are immature. Some of the children might be bullied before,so they want to do the same thing to other children.
ReplyDelete2) Student should have meeting to learn how to stop the bullying behavior and teach the older kids to mentoring the younger kids do not bully in the bus ,it's dangerous for the them because the bus driver have to focus on the road. Also, it's better to hire supervisors to control the children's behavior so that they wont affect the driver and it's important to their early behavioral education.
3)Maybe school thinks the children have bully behavior in school bus is commom or it's not a serious problem. They may think i'ts after school already, they can not make sure every kids follow the rule.
i agree with your opinion that children bully their peers beacuse they are immature. They want bully others can show off their power, then others will admire or scare of them and nobody will pick on them.
Delete1)I think there are various reasons for why children bully their peers, such as because they may have been the bully target before and they didn’t want to be bullied or despised by the bad kids again. So they thought that they can use the bullied way to treat others and demonstrate their power. Another reason maybe those children grew up in a violent environment, and they had influenced by the bad general mood.
ReplyDelete2) In my opinion, I think school should have a supervisor along with the bus driver on the bus. In that way, the bus driver can be more focus on driving, and the supervisor will regulate the students. Everyone gets a safer and happier drive.
3) I think they don’t do these things because some schools don’t have enough money to pay for the extra expense. Some schools don’t take these bully events seriously, they may think those extra expense are just a waste of money, they can use those extra expense on other more important objects such as school supplies.
fei fei~ I think school should have a superivsor on the bus, too. but many schools dont have enough money to do that, so we can think about other ways to ban of the bully by children.
DeleteI agree with you in some points, but I think we can figure out the better way of it.
DeleteI don't think that children bully their peers because they were being bullied before but i agree with you on the children growing up in a violent environment.
DeleteGood point. I too believe that bullying creates more bullies. It is a vicious cycle!
Delete1. I think children bully their peers because they have been bullied by their peers.Children will remember their peers bullied them before.Children get revenge their peers.
ReplyDelete2. I think schools can find a police on school buses because police can maintain order make children can not get bully with each other. If children bully on the buses, police can do some punishment for them.Good children can get enlighten and feel regret.Someone are disobedient child, they can get more punishment for disobedient child. Therefore, school don't need worry children will bullied by their peers.
3. I think they don’t do these things because schools don't have take these things seriously.Maybe school just care about children at the school bullied by their peers. When children left school, school might don't care about children bullied.
The children who were being bullied know how it feels to be bullied by others. So i don't think that they will bully in order to get revenge. But I liked your idea about getting police on school buses.
Delete1) I think the children bully their peers because they're in the young age who love to play. So, they always want to make joke with others.
ReplyDelete2) I think they can select a bus president from student which help the driver to watch students.and change the bus president each week or make it rotation of it. also, we can have a bus vedio on the bus to instead the bus president. I think these two ideas will help the school bus driver.
3) I think the schools are not doing it, its because they don't trust the bus president will help them to watch the students, and the cameras can't catch everything that goes on.
I liked the bus president idea too!
Delete1. Children think bully their peers age is a fun. Some children do it intentionally to retaliate back to their peer age. when children seen elderly people or their parent bully each other. They believed bully is the right thing to do.
ReplyDelete2. They school should has big and strong security man on duty. Moreover, any student found bully each other should be suspended from school for seven days. The parent would know the behavior of their children at school.
3. The driver is not think about the children who is bully themselves. The driver is thinking about the safety and life children in side the school bus because he or she needs maximum concentration. Nomination of president among the school children to watch or monitoring their peer who is bully each other. It is like put a fire beside gas because the president may be king of bully. The fun will continue for ever.
While having a security guard may deter bullying, I think a much more effective route would be to teach children the damage of bullying so that they may choose not to do it even when there is no security guard around.
Delete1) I think children bully their peers because they think their stronger and/or tougher. They may also bully them because as their perspective, they want to bother the weak ones and they think bullying is cool.
ReplyDelete2) Well, I would agree with the option that was mention in the article. I think it will be effective since the program establish "kids invest in the bus and their behavioral, learning to govern it". I also like the idea for putting surveillance camera and the fun activate they did like naming their bus and choosing a bus president every few week. If possible, they should talk to students individual to find out who is the victim and a solution to stop bullying in school or in bus.
3) I'm guessing that it requires lots of money for the program like the staff who are mainly in charge of the operation. People need jobs, however ; the economy it not in a steady position. Furthermore, it may be time consuming to set the program nationally.
I also thought the idea of naming the bus was cute and probably quite effective! I think giving kids a sense of community is a great way to encourage them to make friends and discourage bullying. Good points!
Delete1.I think children bully their peers because they want to satisfy their ambition, and want to be a notch above the others. and some of them may think that bully is fun.
ReplyDelete2.I think that school should arrange every bus at least with one administrator to prevent that school bus bully happen again.
3.They are not doing these things because it may cost a lot of money, also some of the them may thinks that just a kid-game,it is not a big problem。
agree with all your view of points.
DeleteI think most adults agree that bullying is a big problem, but for some reason they still don't want to fund new safety measures to keep kids from getting bullied. How frustrating!
Delete1. children bully students because they may think it is interesting and other students may scare of him .
ReplyDelete2. first. schools should educated children how disadvantage of bullying on school bus. remind children who bully students, if he repeat offence, connect parents and do not let him take school bus again.
3. maybe schools think if is not a very seriously problem. they may think when children grew up they will realize the harm of bullying on school bus.
Excellent points! I absolutely agree that one of our first steps should be to educate children on the disadvantages of bullying.
Delete1 .There are many reason children bullies their peers , one of many is a childish competition , they want to show people he or she is better .
ReplyDelete2 . Let children know each others and make a friendly community is a wonderful idea to lower the number of bullies ,but more importantly are the Cooperation of parents and more education of polite .
3 . School bullies is a long-standing problem in Unite state ,people may try these thing before , but the concerned of Moral values and law of minor stop they push this idea in practice.
1)Ans:I think children bully their peers because they think it is fun to do so. Some of the children may think that by bullying others they can be recognized or can build up their reputation among friends.
ReplyDelete2)Ans:They should teach them about the negative effects of bullying. Because those bullies might not know that they are hurting others emotionally or physically by bullying them. They may stop bullying after learning the negative effects of it.
3)Ans:I think they aren't doing this because it is a long term process or they might have better ideas than this.
1. Children bully his peers because they wants to get other people's attention and it will make some accomplishment to themselves. And sometimes maybe their parent are violent too so they got affected, so the children apply their violence in the school. 2. In the shcool buses there should be a conductor on the bus instead of just the driver. Driver will never have the time to stop students from bullying others while the bus is in motion. A bus conductor will help cut back on bullying on the shcool buses, and he/she should metion about not to bullying on the buses and if they do, what kind of consequence they will end up. 3. Maybe there still is bullying, maybe a few. If other children stopped doing it, they will stop too, once their bullying leader stopped, so they all will stop. Because children are easily gather together to create a disturbance by the others, they don't have self-control.
