  1. My reaction is that this article is is telling to truth for me, because sodas and other sweetens drinks are affecting people's health. I think soda should be taxed , because with the money that they raise from it they can use it for the peoples own health, they can make a campaign for health. And if they tax it the soda company can consider making it different , more healthier, and less dangerous for the body. Because people may end up not buying soda too much because of the tax. It should for adults too, because it can affect them also, they are no different than the kids. It should be for everybody not just the kids.

    1. I think we get the similar reaction for the issue. It is true that if soda come with tax, it will decrease the selling of soda. It will benefit to many people. The obesity rate will decrease, too.

    2. i don't think so that rise taxes on soda is a good idea for people. if they rise tax, not too many people buy soda, how the soda company use tax to consider making it different?

    3. Those are good points, Luis. I think that a tax on soda would definitely make the companies change the way they do things.

  2. My reaction to the issues in the chapter is I agree what the parts of people said:" Soda will make children become fat, and it's a unhealthy food." We need to take actions to ban or reduce soda consumption between people such as: set a higher tax of soda, put warning label, and so on. Actually, I think soda should be taxed and restricted for both children and adults. Because I agree what the author wrote in the chapter:" These calories, they point out, are worse than unless-they're empty, and contribute to a daily total that is already too high." Everybody knows soda contains much calories which are bad for people's health. It will cause many diseases for children and adults. It will affect human's body and their life. So I think restricting soda for children and adults are a good idea which can make a good future to those people.

    2. I agree with your opinion.Everyone know soda is unhealthy for them.It will cause obesity and diseases. People should care about their health.

    3. I don't agree with your opinion, we have many foods make people obesity, they only rise tax on soda is not fair for other companies.

    4. I agree that idea of soda is bad for our health, we should not drink soda. But I don't think the government should restrict soda. It is unfair for the soda company and the employees which work in the soda company. It is not good for the society and the economy. Restricting soda means the soda companies will lost their business, the capital of the country will decrease, and many people will lost their jobs. Restricting soda will cause more problems. Therefore government should just rearrange the size of the soda bottle and increase the tax of the soda.

    5. The fact that you brought up "empty" calories is really important, I think. We need calories to live, but these calories don't give us any benefit, so we are gaining weight without getting nutrition, which is the big problem.

  3. I think sodas should be more taxed because it wills reduce intake consumption of children and adult. Many people both adults and children love sweet things.when there is increase in taxes of sodas, equivalent to actual cost price. The children and adults wouldn't go for it any more. Adult wills think that buy one bottle sodas at $2 and paid $2 for tax on ''it is waste of money on product that isn't good for their health-wise''. They have a lot thing to do with money rather than waste it on sodas. I believed increasing the tax on sodas will reduce the obesity and diabetes in children and adult.

    1. This is a good point, Olajire and if a tax like this did exist, perhaps people would be forced to choose the cheaper (and almost certainly healthier) option.

    2. I agree with your point for increase the tax of soda, but sometimes,it won't be realistic for the increasing much price for soda. People will against the kind of thing.

  4. My reaction to the issues in the chapter that drink too much soda is unhealthy for people. I think soda should be taxed and restricted for both children and adults because drink too much soda will cause obesity and diseases. A lot of people love drink soda. If people can control their own self don't go to buy soda. It will be reducing obesity and diseases. According to the article, soda getting rise, people get obesity caused they drink soda.If taxed on soda, I think people will consider for buying soda because it's experience than before. Soda has too much sugar and calories. It's will affect healthy. Therefore, I think taxed in soda will reducing obesity and diseases. People will less buy for soda. Almost all of people know soda is unhealthy for them.

    1. I don't think people will stop drinking sada if it's be taxed. They still can find their ways . Not only sada contains high calories, how about the hamburger? Should it also be taxed? Its not fair for the beverage industry.

    2. I don't think everyone will stop drinking soda if it were to be taxed, but I do think a great many people would cut back on their consumption.

    3. Even the price of soda increase, but many people still can't live without soda.We need to take actions to band soda gradually.

  5. I think soda is not like the tobacco. Soda with high calories, but people drink soda moderate isn't harmful. I disagree with the government rise the taxes on soda. Many children like soda, they don't know sugar-sweetened beverages cause them obesity. They don't care about the price of soda. So I think rise taxes it doesn't work. From the article," Soda has calories, and food with calories causes people to put on weight when consumer advocate." Many foods with high calories, if the government only rise taxes on soda that's not fair. Other junk foods still make children obesity. Therefore, The food industry should make food with lower calories is healthy for people, and the government also try to provide some obesity prevention programs for children. Besides, I think rise taxes on soda are not a good idea for adults, because high taxes will cause an attention and people will treat soda like tobacco.

    2. The comparison you made between soda and cigarettes is an interesting one, Jingyi. You're right, soda could be consumed in moderation with no lasting health risks. Cigarettes, on the other hand, are bad for you even in small doses.

    3. I agree with your opinion about people will treat soda like tobacco. But i think soda have to be taxed. At least,it will force some people leave away for soda.

  6. I don't think soda will be like the tobacco. In order to reduce the childhood boesity, the government raise the tax on soda and put the warning labels. I don't think it works that children don't buy soda. There is a lot of fast food and drinks contains high fat, sugar and calories that causes obesity, not just soda.In the crticle, the advocacy group said"But there is no unique link between soda and obesity."Also if soda be taxed or restricted for children, it may lead to another worse situation.People may stop buying soda, but it doesnt mean they don't eat other food contains high sugar or fat.No one can control someone's diet, people still find their ways although soda is taxed and restricted. It's the same situation for adults.Soda should not be taxed because it's not the only one food that causes obesity. Its not fair for the beverage industry. The best way to reduce obesity is eat less and exercise more not to change the markting.

    2. I agree with your opinion about raise the tax and put on warning labels on soda are not going to solve the problem of obesity. And these actions are unfair for the soda companies. But I do think soda will be like the tobacco. Soda has a great popularity and a good favor, and it has a very bad effect on health. Tobacco has the popularity and bad effect too. Both of them will cause people serious health problems in the long period of time, and both of them are addictive products.

    3. Its true that restricting sodas can't help because there are plethora of different foods that contain lots of sugar. But making sodas containing less sugar can be helped.

    4. That's a good point, Jianyi. If some people don't get to curb their sugar cravings with soda, they may just go eat candy or other unhealthy foods and we will encounter the same problem in a different way.

  7. my reaction is that soda is consider to tobacco which causes health problems for people. i think soda should be taxed. when the price is high, people will buy less. For example, children will get soda from their parents, if parents stop buying soda to home. their children will drink less. also the price is high, children will not have enough money to buy it by themselves. For adult,we can copy the way that tobacco: put warning labels and massive public health marketing campaig on the can; announce that soda is like tobacco which cause a lot of diseases.

    3. You're right that one of the big problems with soda is its availability. It is everywhere, and that means kids will see it and want it nearly all the time. Keeping it out of the home is definitely a step parents could take to reduce their children's soda consumption. Out of sight, out of mind!

  8. I think the soda should be taxed for both children and adults. People love the sweet and cheap staffs, and they can usually get a large-size of Soda with a cheap price. But if the tax is raised for a higher price, the total amount of the soda would increase. For example, a soda should be tax on 50% of its price. The size of the soda should be rearranged. It can change from a larger size to an extra-larger size, a medium to a large size, and etc. Once the price and the size have changed, the customers will start to consider about purchasing. According to the article that increase tax on the soda has not enough power to reduce obesity, therefore the government should increase tax on unhealthy food too.

  9. I think that the government is trying to take people's to make decisions for themselves. Moreover, the government is taxing the sodas because they want money and that is the easiest way to get money since they know that people are not going to stop buying sodas. However, by taxing the sodas they might be fighting to stop people of getting more and more obese and having any health problems or diseases. Even though the government tax soda people are not going to stop buying it because when a person want something no matter what or how they are going to get it and for some people soda can be addictive.

    1. These are many points New Yorkers agreed on when our old mayor was trying to control the sizes of soda that are available to the public. Most people agree that it could be a helpful measure, but don't agree with the idea of having their choices taken away.

  10. I truly believe that Soda can be both taxed and restricted for children and adult because, it could be beneficial for their health. As it says in the article, advocates promote that issue by saying " soda tax would reduce consumption and pay for anti-obesity campaigns" I agree with that, and I think that is a good start. Because, Soda is a great source of artificial sugar, which is fatal for people and that could lead to serious health complications. By reducing the consumption of soda, children's and adult's health would improve and the money could use in a positive way. People just love junk food including soda. It is important that the government takes that matter in consideration in order to fight obesity here in America.

    1. You make good points here, Lissa. I think one thing to keep in mind about what makes soda such a "danger" is that, since it is a drink, it's easy to consume too much of it without realizing and accidentally adding thousands of calories to your diet.

    2. I agree with your point that the sugar in the soda is really bad for the children's health. Specially when they are young, they like drinking everything is not good for them.

  11. From my point of view, I don't think that sodas should be taxed or restricted. Sodas contain a large amount of sugar but they are not going to cause any problem in our body if we drink in a limit. When children consume sodas too much, it becomes a habit which is unhealthy. Soda companies should make sodas using less sugar. But there is no point to make it restricted. Adults should avoid drinking sodas and tell their children about the effects of drinking too much sodas. Government should also help by advertising the facts of sodas that could destroy human health.

  12. in the chapter i think soda should be taxed and restricted for children and adult, because it may make them more healthier , too much sugar in soda and it is bad for people if they eat too much of it. but in my point i do not think soda should be taxed and restricted . soda is so popular almost 90% people drink it . even government increase tax of soda it is also cheap so i think this way does not work. so if want people buy less soda drink government should let people know how soda bad for your body and healthy.

    2. I am confused because you said, "i think soda should be taxed and restricted" and then "but in my point i do not think soda should be taxed and restricted." it is true that the government should try to do more to inform the population of the dangers of too much soda and sugar in their diet.

  13. Yes,the article may telling the truth , but we can blame the soda industry because we can take care our own health ,like people who love themselves
will never take drugs , it is our responsible to not being obese , and we always have a choose . Raising taxed won't stop people drinking soda just like people still smoke cigarettes , the best thing to do is encourage or passion people to live health , like sending a massage to people " good body shape and health is good and happy ".

  14. Well, I don't find it surprising since I already know that soda is bad for you of the high sugar that it has. Although, I didn't know that it can be as similar to drugs and tobacco where it can cause bad health. I think that soda should be taxed and restricted from children because if there's tax, it may decrease the chance of people buying less soda causing better health. In addition, within the the taxes of the soda, the company can use that money to improve the making of the soda to become more healthy as in less sugar, etc... Not only should children be affected but as well as adults. Adults should be well aware of how much sugar contains in the soda and that they should have a limit to it drink it so it wouldn't make them more unhealthy. Both the children and adults are the same in the addiction of drinking soda which can cause a serious matter in the future.

    1. That is a good point I didn't think of, Justin. If there is a tax on soda, then maybe the soda companies can get some of that money and develop healthier drinks (part of the problem with soda is that unhealthy ingredients are cheaper, so that is all they use).

  16. The whole article is telling us that soda will be harmful for children as tobacco and it also treated like tobacco with taxed or restricted. I strongly agree with the author’ s opinion that soda is unhealthy for people, especially for children. If soda come with tax or restricted from campus, it will be benefit to many people keeping diet balance and reducing the obesity. I think it suits for adults too. Because everybody needs a healthy body, don’t you? We are facing the problem of healthy food is too expensive and unhealthy food is too cheap, therefore I think that soda with tax will be a good start.

    1. The fact that healthy food costs more than unhealthy food is one of the biggest problems we have as far as the health of America's citizens goes. I agree with you that something like a soda tax could possibly help to rectify that situation.

  17. After reading the article i realize soda is very bad for people‘s health, and it should be taxed and restricted. Also need to limit the adult, because in some case adult are drink more soda than the children. and it's bad for them too. but actually i dont think just increase the price can stop people drink it. The diet of people is hard to change, and even taxed it, still will not become much different.
